About Playa de las Americas
There is abundance of things to do in Playa de las Americas. Established in the 1960´s as a purpose-built holiday resort in the south Tenerife, close to the adjoining towns of Los Cristianos and stretching west to Costa Adeje. The resort area features bars, nightclubs, restaurants, attractions, and beaches, most of which are man-made with imported sand from Africa due to the darkness of the native volcanic sand. Playa de las Americas is the centre of nightlife in Tenerife. Nightlife is spread around the resort and includes the Veronicas Strip, Starco Commercial Centre and The Patch.

Places to eat in Playa de las Americas
Playa de las Americas has an abundance of restaurants to suit everyone’s pallet and budget, whether you are a vegan, vegetarian, enjoy a good steak or looking for cheap buffet style dinner for the family. But do not worry, our team took the pleasure of testing the majority of these restaurants over the past 8 years and are here to tell you what we think is best.
Best Steaks in Las Americas
Our best restaurant for steaks is at one off the famous venture restaurants, Empire. Venture Restaurants are probably the most up market establishments in Tenerife for fine dinning. If you are staying in Playa de Las Americas during you holiday in Tenerife then we would recommend treating yourself at least once to a meal at Empire. All of the Venture restaurants are popular among tourists and locals. They are usually locals first choice to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. If the word fine dinning might sound daunting price wise there is no need to worry as they also offer buy one get one free every afternoon at one of their restaurants. Booking a table at Empire on an evening is a must as it is always extremely busy with queues out of the door. You can make a reservation on their website.

Best Italian Restaurant
There are many great Italian restaurants in Tenerife but we would have to say that our best would be Bianco´s. It might not be the cheapest, but they offer some of the best quality Italian food we have ever tried outside of Italy.
Enjoy eating out with fine Italian food and a fun atmosphere in the über cool Bianco Restaurant in Playa de Las Américas.
Constantly buzzing with diners, the contemporary décor and lively atmosphere of Bianco Restaurant attracts those who enjoy excellent Italian food in trendy surroundings.
Featuring nightly live music from some of the island’s most respected musicians, Bianco is also the perfect venue for wedding receptions, corporate events & holiday nights out.
One of Tenerife’s best loved, modern restaurants in the heart of Playa de Las Américas, Bianco Restaurant is the place to come for first rate Italian dining in style.

Things to do in Playa de las Americas at the beach
Situated on the coast it boast 5 beaches Playa del Bobo, Playa Troya, Playa de las Americas, Playa Honda & Playa del Camison. Also, very close by is the main port of Puerto Colon, which is the hub for the majority of the islands water sports and boat trips. A promenade runs all the way along Playa de las Americas´ beaches and is lined with bars and cafe´s.
Things to do in Playa de las Americas at the harbour
Puerto Colon harbour is home to the best boat excursions that Tenerife has on offer along with our personal favourite excursion, the jet ski safari!
There are boat trips to suit everyone at Puerto Colon harbour from 2 hour trips to search for the islands resident whales and dolphins to 5 hour trips up the west coast to see the famous cliffs of Los Gigantes. You can become overwhelmed with the amount of choice on offer and with so much competition you can get some amazing deals. On the downside, with so many boat trips, this brings a lot of ticket touts, all of which work on commission and are fighting for the sales. Haggling on the price here may look like you are achieving an amazing deal but this will only lower the quality of the excursion. An extremely cheap trip usually means sacrificing important qualities that make Tenerife boat trips what they are known for. Lower costs could mean losing out by having no refreshments on board inexperienced guides or no guides at all. Most importantly you do not want to be on a boat that does not hold the blue flag badge. This means that the company adhere to all safety measures and are trained to respect the marine life. When you come across the whales and dolphins, its nice to know what you are looking at and get a bit of knowledge about the animals whilst being entertained on-board and not feel like you are disturbing the animals and causing unnecessary stress.
This does not mean that you can´t still get a bargain on some top quality excursions, you just need to be smart about it. Looking online will eliminate any stress and you will avoid paying unnecessary commission while guaranteeing to not be misled by commission hungry salespeople. You can get all the help and advice you need to make an informed decision in your own time.
Recommended Boat trips in Las Americas
Our personal favourite boat trips for couples or groups departing from Puerto Colon are the luxury Skyline boats, the Skyline Sailing Yacht and the Skyline Cruiser. These 2 boats are not just the best things to do in Las Americas but in our opinion are the best things to do in Tenerife. Both hold the blue flag badge ensuring that they will not stress out the whales and dolphins, have extremely knowledgeable guides, free transfers to and from your hotel and will include complementary drinks and food on board throughout.
Families with younger children can be in safe hands whilst on board the Royal Dolphin, this blue flag boat also offers great knowledgeable guides, underwater windows to view the marine life from below the surface and a choice of 2, 3 or 4.5 hour trips. Take a short 2 hour trip to visit the whales and dolphin then return back to the harbour, this is ideal for first time boaters and as the Royal Dolphin is the largest boat at Puerto Colon it is more suitable for anyone who may suffer from sea sickness. 3 hour trips will offer the same excursion as the 2 hour but provide sandwiches and beverages along with a 30 minute swim stop. 4.5 hour excursion offers the same as the 3 hour trips but with a hot cooked dinner instead of sandwiches and will take you to see the cliffs of Los Gigantes where you are free to take a dip in the ocean.
Jet ski safaris are the most popular excursion for large groups and couples. You are not just driving around in a square aimlessly waiting for you time to run out. Pick up some serious speed on a 1 or 2 hour safari, follow a speed boat while speeding up and down the coast. If the weather allows it, stop half way for a 10 minute dip to cool down. There is a good chance of sighting dolphins during the 2 hour safaris as they pass by the fish farms.
