This admirable artificial lake has transformed the Puerto de la Cruz coastline with its sculptures and sea water pool complex surrounded by native Canarian plants, shops, restaurants and bars. Take a nice refreshing swim in one of several sea water pools and spend the day relaxing on the terraces. Visiting the Martiánez Pools is one of the most popular things to do in Puerto de la Cruz!
Take a visit to the botanical gardens. The large, beautiful gardens are rich in Spanish history. These tropical plants, flora and trees were imported from Spanish overseas territories in South America in 1788 on the orders of King Carlos lll. Destined for the kings palace in Madrid the flora needed a stop off point to acclimatise to their new environment. Puerto de la Cruz was chosen due to its sub tropical climate and the Acclimatisation Gardens (Botanical Gardens) were born! You can find many tropical plants and trees within the grounds such as Coussapoa Dealbata, palm trees, aroids, aloes, bromeliads & fig trees all of which are not native to the Canary Islands.
Visit one of Puerto de la Cruz beaches
There are 6 main beaches in Puerto de la Cruz offering something for everyone, Playa Martianez, Playa del Socorro, Playa Jardin, Playa del Ancon, Playa Bollullo and Playa de los Roques.
Our most recommended beach in Puerto de la Cruz is Playa Jardin. This nice, dark sandy beach has everything you need. Good accessibility and plenty of lifeguards to make swimming and surfing safe for all to enjoy. However, if you are looking for a much more secluded spot to spend your day, then Playa del Ancom is completely untouched by tourism and is a hidden gem amongst the locals.
Archaeological Museum of Puerto de la Cruz
If you are interested in history then a visit to the Archaelogical Museum will be one of the most interesting things to do in Puerto de la Cruz. This small but great museum is the most important museum in Tenerife, if not the whole of the Canary Islands. Displaying mummified remains of the islands original dwellers along with Guanche pottery. This museum houses ancient and newer artefacts and makes for a very interesting visit.
Castillo San Felipe
Castillo San Felipe was one of 4 forts built to defend the city. Construction began in 1599 for the purposes of fighting off pirate ships. Located next to the cities nicest beach Playa Jardin, you will find this preserved colonial style castle, Castillo San Felipe hosts art exhibitions as well as theatre performances.
